About National Wool Museum

The National Wool Museum stands as a beacon of history, celebrating the Australian wool industry and textile culture. Founded in 1988 for Australia's bicentennial celebrations, it began its life at 26 Moorabool Street in Geelong under Queen Elizabeth II’s royal opening. The push to create such an admirable centre started years prior - all the way back to 1979 when proposals first arose from local government initiatives by Victoria's Geelong Regional Commission.

Established in 1988 as Australia's only museum to exclusively celebrate the global wool industry, The National Wool Museum is a treasure trove of exhibits located within the iconic Geelong Wool Exchange. Visitors can explore three galleries dedicated to historical and modern perspectives on this treasured fibre from local, state, national and international vantage points, all under the same roof! Plus, now with added attractions such as Denny’s Kitchen & Lambys bar – you don't want to miss it out!
